Just getting stuff done!

We have been busy doing all kind of things at "The Roost".  We've been busy from feeding bees to building fences.  It was really wet for a while which handicapped us getting more done, but we still managed to get some stuff done.
Over the last few months we have been able to increase our equipment, due to finding some on sale at an auction. That was very good. The equipment included a fertilizer spreader, a disk and a spray rig. (Remember, our other spray rig was stolen - hopefully this one will stay around).
Bruce and I spent Thanksgiving at "The Roost".  We didn't get as much done as we had planned due to it raining for days!  We did manage to get some things done.  Things like eating good, watching football, watching nature, looking at the moon when clouds weren't covering it up, digging a few fence post holes, walking on the trails, sitting by the fire, and getting stuck in the mud for days.  Finally, Haley and Josh had to come rescue us!  What a memorable holiday!

Fall is in the air at "The Roost"

This last weekend (and actually a couple weekends before also),  Bruce and I did a lot of cleaning.  A couple weekends ago Bruce was able to cut the grass everywhere and clean up a little more around the Bee yard.  .
Picture
Bruce bushhogged the railroad bed and all around the lake as well as some of the camping areas.
Picture
Max and I kept a close lookout for any missed spots!!!!  Just kidding.  I got to use the sling blade and weed whacker!  (I think I need to learn to drive a Tractor! -- Just kidding again, I've already had to learn that little skill.)
Bruce got the fields ready and then started planting.
Picture
He planted all kinds of stuff in the fields for deer and wildlife

I will have to get with him to find out what all he did plant.

Of course, we also got some fishing in too.  All in all, it was a great weekend.

Thank you Lord for letting Bruce and I manage your farm!

Lily Pads, Lily Pads.......EVERYWHERE Lily Pads

9/6/2015

Last weekend we sprayed the lily pads......again!  Don't get me wrong, I think the lily pads are pretty and they do provide a nice place for the fish to hangout under, but when they are all the way around the lake, they will get on your nerves when you are fishing!. Every other time you cast, you catch a lily pad!  So, we will let some lily pads stay, but not many! The lily pads you see in the photos have already been treated once, yet they are still growing.  We did manage to remove most of the lily pads that were around the lake with the first treatment.  We will keep you up to date with the blog.

Reworked the Watering system!

8/25/2015

Well, it has become apparent that the watering system we came up with was watering the grass more than the blueberries!  So this last weekend we reworked the whole thing.

At first, we had sections of soaker hose going around the blueberries and this was attached to regular hose back to the water supply tank. The grass was taking most of the water and growing fast and tall.  So, this weekend we solved that problem.....we hope. Lots of work and even had a little praying mantis there to watch us work.  Hopefully, this will keep those blueberries and trees watered.

It was lightly raining the whole time,  at least it made it cooler to work.

The Lake and Lily Pads ... and Fish

Lily pads are trying to take over the lake. So I steered the little boat with the trolling motor as Bruce sprayed the pads to try to keep them under control.  After that we fished some.  Look how big the Bass have gotten!

It has been so hot lately, we feel we need to be able to water the poor blueberries and trees.  So we devised this contraption.  So far it is working fine.

The Blueberries

Our little blueberries look like they are needing a little food.  So we fertilized them and made sure they got some water.

This blog is meant to provide enjoyment and information as we attempt to achieve our goal of making "The Roost" what we believe the Lord has told us and is leading us to do with the property. It is our hope that you will be able to follow along and possibly even join in with it's growth and development. We long to share this blessing.
We, Bruce and Marsha, will try to update our new blog at least monthly (well that's not happening) as things continue to happen and develop at Buzzard Roost Farms.  We hope you will enjoy reading about it as much as we enjoy doing it.  .
